Hello, I collect recordings from this era religiously, and this show’s soundtrack has become a source or many road blocks for me. I’ve been trying to take inventory of the songs being used on the series. There are several which seem impossible to track down, inconsistently have the wrong artist listed, or are not included in your list.
I made a song list by episode to see if you can help find the missing songs, or to help you add the songs I’ve tracked that are missing from your list.
Here’s what I have:
GREASE: Rise of the Pink Ladies – Vintage recordings used in the non-diagetic soundtrack and songs borrowed from external sources
SEASON 1
Episode 1 – “We’re Gonna Rule This School”
1. 00:00 – Sexy Ways – Hank Ballard and The Midnighters – 1954
2. 18:30 – I’ve Got A Feeling – Big Maybelle – 1954
3. 35:45 – Semper Fidelis – Morton Gould & His Symphonic Band – 1956
4. 41:24 – Ding Dong Daddy – Wynona Carr – 1955
5. 42:42 – My Natch’l Man – Jesse Powell Orchestra with Fluffy Hunter – 1952*
6. 54:13 – Mambo Baby – Ruth Brown – 1954
*Missing from your list
Episode 2 – “Too Pure To Be Pink”
1. 25:45 – Mama (He Treats Your Daughter Mean) – Ruth Brown – 1953
2. 27:22 – Wee Small Hours – Phil Johnson and the Duvals* – 1958
3. 27:31 – When You Are Near Me – Mae Arnette & The Academics** – 1959
4. 27:48 – Breaking Up The House – Tiny Bradshaw – 1950
5. 28:47 – Oh, Honey – Gloria Wood – 1954
6. 30:29 – Kiss of Fire – Giorgia Gibbs – 1952
7. 32:20 – All She Wants To Do Is Rock – Wynonie Harris – 1949
8. 34:30 – Come My Love – Peter Sivo Band – 1954
9. 42:40 – Well Do It! – Buddy and Ella Johnson – 1954
10. 45:46 – School Bells – Nicky and the Nobles – 1958
**Artist of “When You Are Near Me” is different from the songwriter who’s incorrectly listed as the artist on multiple sites. (Nora Kovach is the songwriter, but the artists are Mae Arnette and the Academics)
*”Wee Small Hours” isn’t on your list but it’s wrongly credited to Andrei Litkei and Ervin Litkei on other lists likely (like the Nora Kovach situation) as it is incorrectly marked as such on digital albums, but I believe the actual artist is Phil Johnson and the Duvals.
Episode 3 – “So This Is Rydell”
1. 06:17 – Ridin’ The Boogie – Lou Sargent – 1951*
2. 10:55 – Sh-Boom – The Crew Cuts – 1954
3. 15:48 – ??? (uncredited vintage rhythm and blues tune)
4. 16:46 – I Love You, Love You Baby – James Bannister and Dennis Binder – 1952
5. 19:37 – Oop Shoop – Shirley Gunter and the Queens – 1954
6. 22:10 – Dyna-Flow – Jack Cooley – 1951
7. 22:36 – ??? (Instrumental – may just be original score)
8. 23:51 – Dinner with Robert – Leo Nissim – 2012*
9. 31:57 – Play Your Guitar – Andrea and Ervin Litkei** – 1957**
10. 36:26 – Toma Que Toma Luis – Bimbi Y Su Trio Oriental – 1951
11. 37:29 – ??? (uncredited Latin music)
12. 40:38 – El Manicero (The Peanut Vendor) – probably specially arranged version for series*
*Song not on your list
**”Play Your Guitar” not included on your list either. Came up on Shazam. Not certain the artists listed are Andrea Litkei and Ervin Litkei as they were songwriters and the album it appears on the same digital compilation album that incorrectly lists Nora Kovach as the singer of “When You Are Near Me”. 1957 is the given year of all the songs on that album, but I’m not certain that’s accurate either.
Three songs are not coming up on Shazam nor are they listed on your list.
Episode 4 – “If You Can’t Be An Athlete, Be An Athletic Supporter”
1. 00:48 – (It’s No) Sin – Dorsey Burnette – 1960
2. 12:17 – Abracadabra – Las Vegas Big Band – 2012
3. 28:28 – Little Girl – Andrea Litkei and Ervin Litkei* – ?*
4. 29:09 – (uncredited rock ‘n’ roll tune – lyrics: “Need some dough for the drive-in show”)
5. 44:22 – Cadillac Baby – Roy Brown – 1950**
6. 45:38 – Disgusted – Mabel Scott – 1950
7. 47:11 – Hello Little Boy – Ruth Brown – 1954**
*”Little Girl” not credited in your list. Only comes up online as by Andrea Litkei and Ervin Litkei, which makes me once again suspicious on the artists as it sounds nothing like the artists listed on the previous episode’s “Play Your Guitar” which also credit the Hungarian songwriting duo as the artist on one of those sketchy digital compliations. But this could be accurate as this song sounds like it’s from the 30s and 40s. Can’t find any info on the song or it’s year.
**Neither Cadillac Baby nor Hello Little Boy are listed on your list.
This song about “needing dough for a drive in show” is nowhere to be found online, and it’s clearly vintage. The music staff of this series seems obsessed with finding songs from this era that no one knows, and are impossible to find, and then they don’t even bother crediting the songs used. Very annoying! Could be a song called “No Dough, No Go” possibly by an artist named Lorenzo Tapia. I find this likely not the artist, but this is all other than Willie Nelson that comes up when searching the song.
Episode 5 – “You Can’t Just Walk Out Of A Drive In”
1. 08:38 – Ookey Ook – The Penguins – 1954
2. 13:05 – Nancy (With the Laughing Face) – Frank Sinatra – 1945
3. 16:06 – (uncredited instrumental rock – might just be original score)
4. 18:48 – Crazy Man, Crazy – sung by actor in on-screen band (originally by Bill Haley & His Comets in 1953)*
5. 21:24 – (uncredited instrumental rock – might just be original score/might be the same as #5)
6. 29:12 – (uncredited rhythm and blues song performed by on-screen band)
7. 33:40 – (uncredited instrumental rhythm and blues instrumental performed by on-screen band)
8. 42:12 – Crazy ‘Bout Ya Baby – The Crew-Cuts – 1954
9. 46:31 – The Best Things In Life Are Free – The Ink Spots – 1948
*Songs not on your list
Episode 6 – “Sloppy Seconds Ain’t My Style”
1. 00:53 – Earth Angel – The Penguins – 1954
2. 02:21 – I Ain’t Drunk – Jimmy Liggins – 1954
3. 04:59 – (uncredited jazz tune)
4. 13:15 – Quizas, Quizas, Quizas (Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps) – Bing Crosby – 1951
5. 18:07 – Love Nobody – The Rockettes – 1954
Jazzy tune not yielding any results but it sounds very much vintage
Episode 7 – “Cruisin’ for a Bruisin’”
1. 01:03 – Cien Anos – Pedro Infante – 1953
2. 01:26 – The Next Time I See You – Little Milton – 1954
3. 03:09 – Vaya Con Dios – Les Paul and Mary Ford – 1953
4. 07:14 – Boogie Boo – Jimmy Madden – 1955*
5. 12:42 – Quizas, Quizas, Quizas (Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps) – Bing Crosby – 1951/(reprise)

12. 23:06 – Papa Loves Mambo – Perry Como – 1954
13. 25:26 – I Fell In Love – Frank & Friends (Rick Riso,vocal) – 2009*
14. 25:53 – Sway (Quien Sera) – Dean Martin – 1954
15. 33:38 – Now & Then – Frank & Friends (Rick Riso, vocal) – 2009*
16. 40:29 – I’m Clappin’ and Shoutin’ – Bumps Myers & His Frantic Five & Bobby Nunn – 1950

18. 43:42 – The Next Time I See You – Little Milton – 1954/(reprise)
19. 44:42 – Ooh Wee Baby! – Carl Campbell and His Orchestra – year unknown (50s)*
*songs missing from your list
**one song “One of these days” not yeilding any results

2. 06:43 – Bye Bye Baby – The Keynotes – 1957

7. 32:25 – Bop Cat Stomp – King Charles – 1954
8. 36:03 – Juke Box Boogie Woogie Chick – The Snookum Russell Orchestra – 1954*
9. 36:57 – (uncredited rock ‘n’ roll tune with lyrics “What’s that baby? What’s that?”) performed by band at diner*
10. 41:28 – Southern Stroll – Jerry Burnham – 1993*
11. 44:34 – Jungle Madness – Gene Krupa – 1941/(reprise)
12. 49:57 – The Storm – Little Esther – 1952
*songs not on your list
**Artist for “Jump Little Children Jump” listed as Ralph Willis, but all the versions online of that song by him, are not what’s being heard on screen. Regardless, the Shazam results still also say Ralph Willis. Then when you look up the other artist Leroy Dallas, also associated with the song in some sources, it’s the same recording that comes up as Ralph Willis, but the recording on screen is clearly another artist, possibly a female or a young unchanged male voice with a doo-wop backup group and a sax. Can’t find any record of this version of the tune anywhere.
There are at least three uncredited and unsearchable songs in this episode
Anyway, if you’re able to track down the missing songs, or correct some of these inconsistencies, that would be great! I only wish the show would give unabridged credit to all of the songs used.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for being so dedicated and offering all this information! We will add the missing songs and continue looking for the ones that you couldn’t find.
Excellent! Thank you!
